Kamloops RCMP have arrested a male wanted on a Canada-wide warrant following a coordinated response involving the Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) and the RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT).
On May 12, 2026, Kamloops RCMP CRU members observed Kurtis Billy operating a stolen pickup truck in the Sahali area. Officers attempted to apprehend Billy, however he fled and initially evaded police on a bicycle.
Officers continued efforts to locate Billy and worked closely with the ERT. He was once again located and attempted to evade arrest by fleeing on foot.
During the foot pursuit, Billy stole a children’s bicycle in an effort to escape. Police maintained containment and continued coordinated search efforts, ultimately locating and safely arresting him without further incident.
Billy had been observed multiple times in Kamloops in recent months. Police are thanking members of the public who reported sightings, which contributed to ongoing enforcement efforts.
Kurtis Billy, who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, was taken into custody and returned to the Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre, where he remains detained pending a court appearance to address his outstanding charges.
“Despite multiple attempts to evade police, our officers remained persistent and focused on ensuring this individual was safely taken into custody,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment. “We also want to thank members of the public whose attentiveness and willingness to report sightings played an important role in assisting police.”
No injuries to the public or police were reported during the incident. The stolen pickup truck and bicycle have since been recovered.
Kamloops RCMP is working on forwarding additional charges against Billy.
