File # 2025-49816
On August 20, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a hit-and-run motor vehicle incident in the downtown core. Shortly thereafter, additional calls were received regarding a vehicle being driven erratically in the areas of Bernard Avenue, Abbott Street, Clement Avenue, St. Paul Street and Ellis Street.
Officers arrived on scene and observed the driver of a newer black SUV performing dangerous maneuvers within several intersections. The vehicle eventually entered the “Meet me on Bernard” pedestrian zone, which is closed to vehicular traffic during the season. The vehicle ultimately came to rest after colliding with a parked vehicle.
The driver was taken into custody, and based on the initial investigation, there is no indication to suggest the driver intended to cause deliberate harm to the public. No injuries have been reported, and the incident is still under investigation.
The RCMP is asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident or captured any relevant video footage, whether it be from dash cams, security cameras, or personal devices to come forward and contact the Kelowna RCMP non-emergency line at 250-762-3300 and reference file number 2025-49816. Those wishing to stay anonymous may do so by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net.
