Single vehicle collision, no injuries
The Kitimat RCMP were called to a single vehicle collision on Smeltersite Rd on January 15th at 5:40 pm. The investigating officer arrived on scene and found a vehicle in the ditch with Emergency Heath services tending to the occupants of the vehicle. The driver was taken to a local hospital by emergency health services to be checked out. Alcohol was ruled out as a cause of this incident. (2026-147)
24 hour driving prohibition
While on routine patrol at 11:04 pm on January 16th, a Kitimat RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Haisla Blvd. While speaking to the driver of the vehicle, an impaired operation of a motor vehicle investigation was started. The driver provided two samples of their breath into approved roadside screening devices. As a result of these samples, the driver was provided a 24-hour driving prohibition. (2026-167)
Erratic driving results in 90-day IRP
On January 17th, at 10:45 pm, a Kitimat RCMP officer was making patrols in the downtown Kitimat area when a vehicle caught the officers attention. While being observed, the driver failed to come to a stop at a stop sign, resulting in a traffic stop. After providing two samples of their breath, the driver was found to have consumed alcohol before driving. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition, and their vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2026-177)
Disturbance lands intoxicated suspect in cells
The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a disturbance on the 100 block of Nechako Center at 1:30 am on January 18th. It was reported that a male suspect appeared to be trying to pick a fight with other people in the area. The officers attended and located the male sitting on a sidewalk. Further investigation was completed and it was found that no assaults had occurred. The male was arrested for causing a disturbance by being drunk in public and was lodge at the Kitimat RCMP cells. The male was released from cells without charge, later that day. (2026-181)
Stop sign infraction leads to driving prohibition
On January 18th at 6:10 pm, Kitimat RCMP officers making patrols in the downtown Kitimat area, observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign pulling onto Lahakas Blvd. A traffic stop was initiated and on investigation into the impaired operation of a motor vehicle was started. The driver provided a sample of breath into an approved screening device. As a result of the test, the driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded. (2026-185)
Breach of conditions leads to bail hearing
A request to check the well being of a male that was walking along Haisla Ave in the Kitamaat Village was received by the Kitimat RCMP on January 21st at 9:13 pm. Patrols were conducted and the male was located on the 500 block of Gitksan Ave. It was found that the male was breaching his bail conditions and was arrested. The male was lodged into the Kitimat RCMP cells and held for a bail hearing on January 22nd.
Guns and Hoses game day announced
The annual Guns and Hoses Hockey game will be returning to the Kitimat Tamitik Arena on Saturday, February 21st. Last year’s game raised a record amount of just over $20,000 for the Kitimat Firefighters Ladder of Hope Charitable Foundation, which supports local children’s nonprofit organizations. The Kitimat RCMP and Kitimat Fire Department are both training hard and getting ready, looking forward to the game and raising more funds.
