Two vehicle collision on Highway 37

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the 600 block of Highway 37 at 2:17 pm on May 1st. The investigating officer attended and found that the vehicles driver had not noticed a line of traffic had stopped for construction until the last minute. The driver attempted to veer off road right, however struck the last vehicle in the line causing damages to both vehicles. Luckily there were no injures to any parties.  A violation ticket for drive without consideration was issued to the driver. (2026-1448) 

2nd Highway 37 collision in two days

On May 2nd, at 7:36 am, the Kitimat RCMP was advised of a single vehicle collision on the 200 block of Highway 37, near Hirsch Creek. The responding officer located the vehicle and discovered it had gone off road right, into a deep ditch and came into contact with a pole. Thankfully, both persons in the vehicle were uninjured, despite an airbag deployment. It was found that something had fallen onto the vehicles floor and when the driver reached down to pick the item up, the vehicle went off the roadway. The driver was issued a violation ticket for drive without due care. (2026-1464)

Speeding brings attention to no insurance

While on routine patrols along Haisla Blvd on May 5th at 9:50 pm, a Kitimat RCMP officer noticed a motorcycle coming toward them at a speed that appeared to be higher than the posted limit. A check with the police car’s radar, found the bike was travelling 86 km/h in the posted 60 km/h zone. A traffic stop was initiated to speak to the rider about the speed. It was quickly discovered that the motorcycles insurance had expired 7 months earlier. The rider was served with a $598 violation ticket for no insurance and a verbal warning for speeding. 12 hour driving suspension

On May 10th at approximately 2:31 am, a traffic stop was conducted with a vehicle on Lahakas Blvd, near Haisla Court. The driver was requested to provide a sample of their breath, which was provided. It was found that the driver had a small amount of alcohol in their system. The driver was found to be a ‘N’ driver and was issued a 12-hour driving prohibition and a violation ticket for driving contrary to conditions as Novice drivers must always maintain a zero-blood alcohol content (BAC). Uttering threats leads to court appearance 

Two Kitimat RCMP officers were speaking to a male on the 200 block of City Centre on May 11th at 12:23, when they received a report that the same male had uttered threats to persons walking by a few mins earlier. The suspect was arrested for uttering threats and taken to the Kitimat RCMP detachment cells. The suspect was released from custody on an Undertaking with conditions and a future court date to answer to the charge. (2026-1593)
