On Saturday April 26th 2025, just before nine o'clock in the evening, Merritt RCMP were dispatched to assist the Merritt Fire Rescue (MFR) with scene containment and traffic control for a two structure fire near the 1300 block of Pine Street.
Upon arriving on scene, and in consultation with MFR, it is suspected that the two structures on separate properties were purposefully lit and an investigation into the arsons began.
The Merritt RCMP are seeking any individuals who may have video surveillance footage on their properties in the neighbourhood to contact police so investigators can efficiently complete this investigation.
"Due to the circumstances of the structure fires, and after some discussion with personel of the Merritt Fire Rescue Department it is believed these buildings were intentionally set on fire. The Merritt RCMP are seeking any tips from property owners in the area who may have video surveillance footage so officers can progress this investigation." says Cst. Blake Chursinoff - Merritt RCMP.
The Merritt RCMP also wish to thank the MRF for their swift and strong response to these fires, ensuring that neighbouring properties were unharmed and Merritt citizens kept safe.
Anyone with information or property owners in the area with video footage can reach the Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262. Merritt RCMP file # 2025-1867.
