Calls of interest:
Around 8:20 pm on Monday July 7, police were notified of a suspicious black Geo Tracker SUV in the ditch along Dewdney Trunk Road near Goundrey Street, with a male and female associated to it. The caller provided the license plate of the vehicle, which police determined had been stolen in Chilliwack a couple of days earlier. When officers arrived, the vehicle was still in the ditch, but the male and female occupants had since left the area. A police dog was used to track the occupants, who were located ten minutes later. Both occupants were arrested, and the male was determined to also have outstanding warrants from Alberta. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash or who saw the vehicle driving earlier and has not yet spoken with police is asked to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161, file 25-8085.
A black utility trailer was stolen from the driveway of a residence on Blueberry Drive sometime between July 5th and 7th. The trailer is 10 feet long, 8 feet wide, and has black metal sides, and a fold-down tailgate that doubles as a ramp. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the trailer should call Mission RCMP.
A woman in a wheelchair reportedly stole two bottles of Vodka from a liquor store in Mission on July 9, by placing them into her purse and then leaving the store. The woman is described as Caucasian, with long wavy brown hair, black glasses, an olive jacket, and was using a motorized wheelchair.
Mission RCMP were called to an apartment building on 1st Avenue near Grand Street on the afternoon of July 10, for an assault that had just occurred. The 81-year-old building manager was in the process of collecting rent from people in the building, when a former resident reportedly assaulted the manager in the hallway, causing him to fall and sustain a laceration to his head. The suspect then ran off, however witnesses were able to provide a specific description of the suspect, which helped police to quickly locate the suspect nearby. The suspect was arrested without further incident, and was found to also have an outstanding arrest warrant in relation to another recent assault in Mission. The person was held in custody for court.
A white Audi S5 crashed near the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Murray Street on the evening of July 10, causing air bags to deploy in the vehicle. The 53-year-old female driver had reportedly been passing another vehicle, when she lost control. An officer noted the driver to be exhibiting signs of impairment, and she failed a roadside screening test. She received a 90-day driving prohibition, and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Two witnesses reported a possible impaired driver in a parking lot at Cedar Valley Connector and Lougheed Highway on July 11 around 6:20 am. An officer located the vehicle nearby and pulled it over. The 60-year-old female driver from Abbotsford and her two passengers were all observed to be in possession of illegal cigarettes. A search of the vehicle located suspected methamphetamine, bear spray, axes and knives, drug paraphernalia, and a pellet gun. The driver was issued a driving prohibition for being impaired by drugs.
On the lighter side
You may have seen a recent media release from Mission RCMP about a series of shoplifting incidents. As a result, retail employees are likely even more alert to suspicious activity in their stores. So it was not surprising when the manager of a store recently targeted by shoplifters took notice of one particular person inside. What caught their attention? Sure, the person’s behaviour was suspicious in general, and they were loading items into a laundry basket instead of a shopping basket, but ultimately, the fact that the person was wearing a disguise was the real give-away that something wasn’t right. This wasn’t just any regular disguise either – like a balaclava or a wig, this person put some real effort into concealing their identity…in the form of a hand-drawn mustache! After being confronted by the manager, the suspect fled the area and was not located; however, police continue to remain on the lookout for the man, who has not yet been identified, and is currently known only as the “felonious face-painter”.
