Welcome to the Mission RCMP Community Connection for October 13 – 19, 2025
Here’s a snapshot of some of the work we did last week:
Calls for service last week: 316
Proactive patrols of identified hot spots: 14
Curfew checks: 6
Calls of interest:
On October 6 or 7, a farm property on Cemetery Avenue near Draper Street was broken into. Suspects entered several outbuildings and stole numerous items including weedeaters, chainsaws, an air compressor, and a tractor and tiller attachment. The tractor is a red 2017 Massey Ferguson, with a front-end loader. Anyone with information about the theft, or the current whereabouts of the tractor or other items should call Mission RCMP, 604-826-7161, file 25-12754.
On the night of October 17, Mission RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit conducted an investigation of someone believed to be dealing drugs around downtown Mission. After gaining sufficient evidence, the plainclothes officers arrested the male and located multiple prepackaged bags of drugs believed to be Fentanyl and cocaine in his possession, as well as other evidence indicating he was actively dealing. The drugs were seized and the investigation is still ongoing.
Around midnight on October 18, a General Duty officer was on patrol in downtown Mission, when he spotted a known offender standing around Horne Street and 1st Avenue. The officer was aware that the man had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, related to assault and theft charges. Upon seeing the officer approach, the man took off running. The officer gave chase and caught up with the man after a short run. The man then tried to put the officer in a headlock, but was taken into custody without further incident. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
A garbage truck drove into a power pole on 7th Avenue, on the afternoon of October 17, causing a widespread power outage. Initial indications are that the driver of the truck performed a u-turn in order to collect garbage from the opposite side of the street, but backed into the power pole while doing so. No injuries were reported, and the driver was issued a violation ticket for performing an illegal u-turn. A witness reported that the passenger of the truck used a shovel to lift some utility wires off of the truck. Police remind the public to exercise extreme caution around any downed utility wires, and not to touch or approach them unless utilities crews or emergency personnel have confirmed it is safe to do so.
On the lighter side:
On the afternoon of October 13, a citizen reported being concerned about traffic congestion along Lougheed Highway near Lake Errock, where a lot of people had stopped to collect walnuts. Due to other priority files ongoing, police were unable to attend to check on the situation, but an officer did reach out to two locals well-known for their expertise in the area of concern – Hazel and Filbert. They have a good relationship with Mission RCMP, and Hazel said she would look into the matter, and “not to worry, I walnut let you down!” The officer was happy to get input from someone who had inside knowledge of the walnut-harvesting scene, because there is only one type of nut that police are familiar with…and that of course is everyone’s favourite…the donut!
