Calls of interest:
An officer recently attended a business in the Mission Hills area of Mission, after staff reported that two people were camping out in front of the business. Upon attending, the officer confirmed the well-being of the people, and noted that they appeared to be under the influence of drugs. The officer seized the drugs and ensured the people left the business property. Mission RCMP note that the drugs – which are believed to be Fentanyl – are multi-coloured and bear the resemblance of Nerds candy, and are becoming more common among hard-drug users in Mission. Police caution the public to be aware of any unknown substances that have a similar appearance, as even brief exposure to illicit Fentanyl can be life-threatening. Anyone who comes across suspected Fentanyl should not handle it, and should notify police.
On the afternoon of March 30, a witness called police after observing a man acting erratically on North Railway Avenue. The man was reportedly undressing himself and waving around a knife. Mission RCMP’s Mental Health Liaison officer attended and de-escalated the man, who put down the knife and cooperated while being handcuffed; however, soon after being handcuffed, the man started to experience delusions, and was apprehended under the Mental Health Act. He was taken to hospital, apparently suffering from a drug-induced psychosis. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.
Mission RCMP were called on April 1, after maintenance workers located a suspicious package on the roof of a commercial building in Mission. An officer attended and examined the package, which the officer immediately believed to be a large container of drugs. Initial testing indicated that the substance was over half a kilogram of Fentanyl. It is unknown when the package was put there, or to whom it belonged. The drugs have been seized for destruction. Due to the significant health risks associated to even brief exposure to Fentanyl, anyone who has an accidental exposure should immediately separate themself from the substance and monitor for any unusual symptoms. Call 911 if symptoms develop.
Officers on patrol pulled over a black Dodge Ram 3500 on Shook Road on the evening of April 2. Inside the vehicle, a 34-year-old man was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to comply with his conditions in relation to a 2025 incident in Mission, and a 53-year-old man was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant for a 2025 incident in Delta. Both men were arrested and held for a court hearing.
On the lighter side:
Things that were reported to be on roadways around Mission last week, which generally should not have been there, included: 1 shovel (which was removed by a police officer); 2 Mallard ducks (which were not removed by a police officer); and 3 goats (which were definitely not removed by a police officer). One of the goats – a young one – reportedly took a wrong turn on his way out to pasture, so his parents had to come and lead him back home. Fortunately, they were not too hard on him, letting him off with a simple, “Silly Billy”.
