Three stolen vehicles were recovered in the Mission area last week. The first was a silver Acura RDX, which on June 1 was located down an embankment along Dewdney Trunk Road, east of the Mission dam. It had been stolen from Abbotsford on the night of May 27-28. The following day, a black 2017 GMC Canyon pickup truck was found dumped off the Lost Creek Forest Service Road, around the 6.5 km mark. All of its wheels had been removed. That truck was stolen from Surrey the night before. Then on June 7, members with the BC Conservation Officer Service located a white 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 down an embankment off the Lost Creek Forest Service Road. It had also been stolen from Surrey, on June 2.
A 54-year-old man from Mission was arrested for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle in Maple Ridge on the afternoon of June 4, after Mission RCMP officers observed a plethora of reckless driving behaviours. Officers with Mission RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit were operating in unmarked vehicles in Mission around 3:30 pm, when a black Jeep Cherokee caught their eye. They began following the vehicle and saw it run red lights, drive at excessive speeds, and perform other illegal manoeuvres. A marked police car was requested to conduct a traffic stop, and the vehicle was pulled over in Maple Ridge. The driver, who is well-known to police, received multiple tickets, and had his Jeep impounded for 7 days.
On the morning of June 4, a concerned person called Mission RCMP to report that a small fiberglass boat on the Fraser River appeared to be having mechanical issues, and that the occupants had since managed to get the boat over to the riverbank. An officer attended to check and make sure everyone was okay and they did not need further assistance. Three people aboard the boat confirmed they were okay and were waiting for a friend to bring another boat to tow them home. A fourth person apparently did not want to speak with police, and immediately ran up onto the train bridge and started trying to cross it, at which point a train also started crossing the bridge. The person was forced to jump off into the water, to avoid being hit by the train. Mission Fire Rescue Service attended and used a drone to help confirm that the person made it safely to shore. The public is reminded to only cross train tracks at designated crossing locations, and never to attempt to walk across the train bridge.
While police were at a property on Degraff Road in the Hatzic Valley on June 4, they located a grey Ford F-350 pickup truck that had been reported stolen from a property in Maple Ridge in November 2025. The truck had been partially dismantled, and has since been turned over to ICBC.
On the afternoon of June 5, police were called to the parking lot of a mall on Lougheed Highway near Haig Street, for a possible impaired driver. An officer located the vehicle, a black Kia Sorento, travelling slowly through the parking lot, and weaving back and forth as it did. The officer turned on his emergency lights and pulled up to the vehicle, at which time the driver put his vehicle in neutral and opened his door, which resulted in his still-moving vehicle to roll into the police vehicle. The driver displayed clear signs of intoxication, and ignored the officer’s repeated direction to put the vehicle into park, eventually requiring the officer to get into the vehicle and apply the brakes, before arresting the man for impaired driving. He was taken to the Mission detachment, where he provided breath samples more than three times the legal limit. He was held in custody to sober up, and received a 90-day driving prohibition.
A pink purse was found at Heritage Park on June 7. If you believe it is yours, call 604-826-7161, file 26-7393, and provide a description of the purse and contents.
