A serious crash occurred on Lougheed Highway east of Mission on the afternoon of June 14, 2026.
Mission RCMP were called to the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Sylvester Road in Hatzic around 3:30 pm on June 14, after two vehicles collided. A grey Toyota Tundra, pulling a trailer with an ATV on it, was travelling westbound on Lougheed Highway, when a white Toyota Camry turned left in front of it, and was struck by the pickup. Video from a nearby gas station showed that the Camry, which had been travelling eastbound on Lougheed Highway, seemingly intended to turn left onto Sylvester Road, but turned too soon, and began turning into the oncoming yield lane for traffic coming off of Sylvester Road. The Camry did not clear the lane in time, and was struck by the Tundra travelling straight through on the highway.
The occupants of the Tundra were not seriously injured, but sadly, the front female passenger in the Camry, a 56-year-old woman from Surrey, died at the scene. A 48-year-old woman from Surrey, who had been in the rear seat, was taken to hospital in critical condition, but is expected to survive. The 59-year-old male driver of the Camry, also from Surrey, was not seriously injured. A witness indicated that that none of the occupants of the Camry were wearing seat belts.
The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service attended to examine the crash scene, and the investigation is ongoing. There is no indication that impairment played a role in the collision. Mission RCMP thanks the witnesses who remained on scene and helped to further the investigation. Anyone who has further information and has not yet spoken to police should call 604-826-7161, file 26-7744.
