This installment of Behind the Badge takes a look into the lives of Constable Jordan Braid and his Police Services Dog Neon.
PSD Neon #1173
Born in Innisfail, Alberta and raised in Newfoundland, Neon brings the best of both worlds: Prairie work ethic with East Coast charm. He loves frisbee, swimming, and pretending he doesn’t understand the word “bath.”
Neon comes from exceptional lineage—he is the offspring of PSD Jago, who was tragically killed in the line of duty on June 17, 2021, while protecting his handler and fellow officers. Jago's courage lives on in Neon, who carries forward his legacy with pride, professionalism, and a touch of mischief.
Trained for:
- General Duty
- Explosive Detection
- ERT Support
Cst. Jordan Braid
Hailing from Nanaimo, Jordan graduated from Dover Bay Secondary, where he first discovered his interest’s included hockey, hiking, and almost anything that kept him active.
After Depot, he was posted to Chilliwack, then transferred to the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service in Surrey. He has now been a dog handler for almost four years—or roughly 28 “dog years,” as Neon likes to remind him.
Jordan’s path into policing started early. Growing up around first responders—his mother an auxiliary police officer and police dispatcher, and his father, initially a firefighter who later transitioned to become a Mountie—instilled in him the value of service, teamwork, and always having a backup pair of boots.
When he’s not working with Neon, Jordan enjoys: Pick‑up hockey, where his backchecking is reportedly “optional” and hiking and of course, spending time with Neon
A huge thank you goes out to Cst. Braid and PSD Neon—an unbeatable combination of leadership, dedication, and boundless canine enthusiasm. Together, they set the bar high for teamwork, professionalism, and the occasional well‑timed laugh.
