Police investigating suspicious fire

At approximately 4:45 AM on February 9, 2026, Nanaimo RCMP were requested by City of Nanaimo Fire and Rescue to attend to the scene of a suspicious fire at the Serauxman Stadium, located at 700 Third St.

By the time fire crews arrived, a storage shed had been heavily damaged and nearly consumed by fire. Officers learned that the shed, measuring 10 m x 8m, had contained pole vaulting equipment. Fire crews indicated the fire may have been burning for an extended period—possibly several hours.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined. Investigators are asking for anyone with information on this incident to please call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
