Cst Josh Waltman, Nanaimo RCMP Mental Health Liaison Officer

Where It All Began

  • Josh was born in White Rock, BC and raised in North Delta, where he spent his early years surrounded by community and sports.
  • Josh is the first police officer in his family, setting the bar for what dedicated service can look like.

Previous Work Experience

  • In 2006, he joined the Surrey Auxiliary Constable Program- calling it the ultimate volunteer opportunity. Here he gained extensive hands‑on experience dealing with complex, fast‑moving calls and diverse community needs.
  • In 2019, he transitioned into a full Constable role after a stint at Depot. Upon graduating, he and the family came to the Nanaimo Detachment- Josh now considers himself an “Island guy”

His Time in Nanaimo

  • Josh currently serves as the full‑time Mental Health Liaison Officer with the Car 54 Program, working closely with partner agencies to support individuals experiencing mental‑health‑related crises.
    • He describes the role as humbling, meaningful, and a reminder of how impactful small moments of support can be.

He insists he’s not busy-we remain unconvinced

When He’s Not Working

  • Josh’s most important title is family man. He’s been married to his wife for 15 years, and together they have two children who keep life full, busy, and rewarding.
  • Weekends are often spent at sports fields, arenas, gyms, or wherever else his kids’ activities take him.
  • He is also cycling, a lot as he is on the 2026 Tour de Rock training team.

If you see Josh around the detachment, feel free to say hi — he’s always approachable and quick with a smile
