The Nanaimo RCMP, Community Policing Volunteers, and Community Safety Officers (CSOs) are partnering with employees from the Real Canadian Superstore to raise awareness about the importance of staying hydrated during the summer months—particularly for Nanaimo’s unhoused population.
The initiative, titled Operation Hydration, will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, outside the Real Canadian Superstore, located at 6435 Metral Drive.
Throughout the event, officers, CSOs, volunteers, and Real Canadian Superstore employees will accept donations of bottled water purchased by customers. All donated water will be loaded into a RCMP cruiser, then distributed throughout the summer to unhoused individuals across Nanaimo. A BBQ by donation will also be available during the event.
“This initiative is about prevention, compassion, and community,” said Inspector Donovan Tait, Operations Officer for the Nanaimo RCMP. “Access to clean drinking water can make a significant difference during periods of extreme heat. By working together with our community partners and local businesses, we can help reduce health risks and demonstrate meaningful support for those most vulnerable.”
