Man dies from injuries following altercation

A 27-year-old man has died from injuries sustained during an assault outside a Nanaimo nightclub.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on July 17, 2026, a 27-year-old man was assaulted outside the Sweet Spot Lounge in Nanaimo. The victim was transported for medical treatment with injuries considered to be life threatening. Despite extensive medical treatment, the victim died from the injuries he sustained.

A 33-year-old male suspect has been charged with manslaughter.

The Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation and as this matter is now before the courts, no further information will be released.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the assault, or who was in the area around the time it occurred, to contact the Nanaimo RCMP and speak with investigators. Anyone with information is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
