File # 2025-13374

On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, just after 05:52 a.m., North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP responded to a report of a stolen truck travelling northbound on Osborne Bay Rd. The vehicle was spotted by the registered owner who followed the vehicle from Crofton.

Police located the stolen vehicle on a rural logging road in the North Cowichan/Ladysmith area. Tire Deflation Device was successfully deployed. The suspects fled into the woods after abandoning the truck.

RCMP Air 8 was deployed along with Police Dog Services (PDS) from Nanaimo RCMP and Westshore RCMP to track both individuals in the thick vegetation and steep terrain. Both suspects were located by PDS who made the arrest and escorted them from the woods. One of the suspects sustained minor injuries during the arrest procedure.

“Thanks to the attentiveness of a member of the public and the quick, coordinated response of our officers, including Air services, the Police Dog Service, and general duty members, we were able to locate the stolen vehicle and arrest two suspects. The outcome highlights the effectiveness of community awareness and the value of specialized RCMP resources working together,” states Sgt. Ryan Pullin, North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP.

Truck and cargo trailer were recovered with Forensic Identification Services attending to conduct a forensic examination of the vehicle and cargo trailer.

The suspects, two men in their forties, remained in custody and were transported to North Cowichan/Duncan Detachment where they were interviewed for continuation of the investigation.

This investigation is still ongoing.
