Vehicle crash into emergency room under investigation

Police are investigating after a vehicle crashed into the emergency entrance of the Cowichan District Hospital.

On October 25, 2025, at approximately 7:40 p.m., North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP responded to a report of a motor vehicle incident at the Cowichan District Hospital located at 3045 Gibbins Rd. Upon attendance, police noted a black Chevrolet Traverse had crashed into the hospital’s emergency entrance and stopped inside the waiting room.

Two paramedics at the scene attempted to check on the driver, a 42-year-old woman, who then allegedly assaulted one of them, causing minor injuries. The woman was then subdued by hospital staff and was apprehended under the Mental Health Act.

No other injuries were reported.

The investigation remains ongoing to determine the leading cause of this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522.
