North Vancouver RCMP have arrested a man with a loaded gun following a traffic stop.

On September 4, 2025, North Vancouver RCMP officers conducted a traffic stop on a man riding a bicycle without a helmet in the 500 block of W Keith Road in North Vancouver. During the interaction, the officer became aware he was in possession of various weapons. The man was arrested and a search was conducted. The man was taken into police custody and brought to cells.

On September 5, 2025, the BC Prosecution Service formally charged Robert Kesson of North Vancouver with the following offences:

  • Careless use of a firearm – Section 86(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of unauthorized firearm – Section 92(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a loaded restricted firearm – Section 95(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a weapon while prohibited – Section 117.01(1) of the Criminal Code

Kesson is currently held in custody and his next court appearance on September 15th.

“While the individual was arrested without incident, it is alleged that a loaded firearm was located and seized before it could be used in a crime,” said Corporal Mansoor Sahak of the North Vancouver RCMP. “This case speaks to the importance of proactive policing efforts in public safety and how seemingly low risk interactions can evolve into more serious criminal investigations. Every firearm removed from the wrong hands reduces the risk of violence and helps us protect the public. Our priority is to keep the community safe, and taking this weapon out of circulation is an important step in doing that.”
