On Monday, August 18, 2025, Northern Rockies RCMP were notified of a potential gold scam happening in the community.
Police were told that two adults were flagging down motorists on Highway 97 approximately 36 kilometers north of Pink Mountain. The suspects appeared to be travelling in a black Dodge Caravan, Ontario plates.
The owner of the vehicle is known to have a history of selling fake gold for money to purchase gas.
While police were enroute to the area, they encountered two more people believed to connected to the “gas-for-gold” fraud scheme. These individuals were driving a black Audi Q7 with Ontario plates.
Police arrested all four suspects and during the search incidental to the arrest police located and seized fake gold hidden inside of the center console, cash, and rolls of quarters.
“We want the public to be know that this type of fraud has come to our community. Be aware of what someone is offering for sale as it may not be what you think it is,” said Sgt Christian Drabosenig NCO i/c Northern Rockies RCMP.
