A woman and her dog have died in a single vehicle crash just south of Klua Lakes on the Alaska Highway early Thursday morning.
On June 11, 2026, at 6:24 a.m., the Northern Rockies RCMP received an abandoned 9-1-1 call reporting a collision. Additional information through a phone crash detection report provided an area on Highway 97 North near Klua Lakes.
Police and other first responders arrived to discover that a Kenworth flat deck truck had overturned and that both the driver and their dog had been ejected. The driver was identified as a 52-year-old Edmonton woman. The woman and her dog were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
While causal factors have not yet been determined, evidence at the scene suggested that an overcorrection resulted in the vehicle overturning.
“The family of the driver has been notified and out thoughts are with them as they cope with the loss of their loved one,” said Staff Sergeant Kris Clark of the BC RCMP.
Anyone with any information, CCTV or dash cam footage of the crash is asked to contact the Norther Rockies RCMP at 250-774-2700.
