Oceanside RCMP File # 2025-11871

A 40-year-old Nanaimo man has been arrested and charged in connection with an overnight business break and enter in Parksville on Monday morning.

At 1:00 a.m. on November 10, a commercial alarm was reported in the 400 block of Island Highway East in Parksville.  A patrolling Oceanside RCMP officer responded within two minutes and confirmed a break-in had occurred.  The officer quickly reviewed the business video surveillance, obtained a suspect description and determined the suspect had removed a safe from the business.

Within minutes, and armed with the video surveillance description, other patrolling officers located and arrested the suspect in a vehicle a short distance away.  The safe had been discarded by the suspect and was recovered by police near the business.

40-year-old Mitchell Andonov was held in custody and subsequently appeared in court where he was charged with break and enter and breach of release order for being in possession of break in tools.

“Once again, video surveillance was critical in helping police make a quick arrest,” says Sergeant Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP. “Video surveillance is invaluable in solving crime and this case illustrates the importance of functioning and immediately available video surveillance."
