Update:
On February 24, 2026, the Sea to Sky RCMP (Pemberton Detachment) received a report of a snowboarder that was involved in an avalanche in a remote area of Anniversary Glacier, near Mt. Joffre and Mt. Matier. At the time the report was received, investigators believed that the incident involved one snowboarder, who was found deceased.
Further investigation revealed that two individuals were snowboarding together at the time the avalanche occurred, and that both were caught in the avalanche. The second involved individual made attempts to locate the deceased but ultimately was required to leave the area due to the fear that a secondary avalanche could occur. The Sea to Sky RCMP (Pemberton Detachment) does not believe there is any criminality involved in this incident.
