BC RCMP notifies IIO BC of incident in Penticton

The BC RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Penticton which has resulted in one person being taken to hospital with serious injuries.

On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at approximately 4:24 a.m., officers with the Penticton RCMP responded to a mischief in progress in which a man was allegedly smashing windows near Lakeshore Drive and Winnipeg Street. Upon arrival, an interaction occurred between the responding officer and the suspect in which a Conducted Energy Weapon was deployed. The officer requested immediate assistance, additional officers responded, and the suspect was subsequently pinned between a police vehicle and a retaining wall.

The suspect was provided immediate medical assistance at the scene before being transported to hospital with serious injuries.

One of the involved officers was also transported to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

The IIO BC was notified and are attending the scene to investigate police actions in this incident. The area was cordoned off to support the investigation.

The Penticton RCMP is conducting a concurrent investigation into the actions of the suspect.

As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.
