One man charged after allegedly starting two brush fires

One individual has been charged after two suspicious fires have been allegedly set in Port Alberni. 

On May 13, 2026, shortly after 10:00 p.m., Port Alberni RCMP responded to the north side of the Alberni Hwy near the Coombs Country Candy store after receiving a report that a man appeared to be deliberately setting brush fires in area.

As police responded, they located a suspect who was arrested without incident and held for a judicial hearing in the morning of May 14, 2026. The suspect, a 38-year-old man has been charged with two counts of arson and remains in custody.
