Police are investigating a single vehicle collision while on board BC Ferries Malaspina Sky vessel.
On June 6, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Powell River RCMP were notified that a pick-up truck had crashed into the galley ramp while loading onto the vessel. Police arrived to find a heavily damaged Dodge pick-up truck. Initial evidence suggested that the vehicle had a malfunctioning brake system. The 66-year-old male driver was issued a violation ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act for Improper Brake Performance, which carries a fine of $552.
Luckily, nobody was injured during this incident, said Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the BC RCMP. Several sailings were delayed while the vehicle had to be removed and an inspection of the vessel to ensure its structural integrity.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Powell River RCMP at 604-485-6255.
