Powell River RCMP has joined the growing number of police agencies in British Columbia to partner with Project 529.

Project 529 is a global, digital bicycle registration and recovery system designed to help reunite stolen bikes with their owners and works by encouraging owners to register their bike details, including images, with an online database.

If your bike is stolen, log into your account or the 529 Garage app and start an alert, and the entire 529 community in your area will be notified instantly. The community can then be on the lookout and advise Police if the bike is located.

If you find a bike, snap a photo and share its location with the 529 community and help reconnect the bike with the owner.

By registering your bike with Project 529, you create a direct link between yourself and your bike, increasing the chances of recovery if it is lost or stolen.

Staff Sergeant Lee Dyson is excited to launch the program in Powell River, stating that “In regions where the program has been deployed, there has been a marked decrease in bicycle thefts as the criminal element becomes aware of the project and the risk of apprehension increases.”

Registration is simple and free and only takes 5 minutes to connect with the 529 Garage community fighting bike theft!
