Suspect arrested in Powell River Rona arson investigation

On May 6, 2026, Powell River RCMP and Powell River Fire Rescue responded to a fire at Powell River Rona that had allegedly been set intentionally. It was reported that the fire caused damage to Rona property in excess of $500 000. Powell River RCMP collected and reviewed video surveillance from multiple sources and were able to identify a male suspect.
On May 8, 2026 at approximately 8:00am, Powell River RCMP arrested the 43-year old man for arson and he is being held in custody to appear in court.
The investigation is ongoing.
Powell River RCMP S/Sgt. Lee Dyson would like to thank all the businesses who provided video surveillance in such a timely manner, assisting in an expeditious identification and arrest of the suspect.
