To those residents living around John McInnis School, don’t be alarmed when you see the police officers, fire fighters and paramedics at John McInnis School this weekend: it’s just a recruiting event!

October 26, 2025, marks the second of these events, aimed at introducing grade 11 and 12 students to some of the dynamics of being a First Responder.

“We held our first ‘Adventures with First Responders’ event on May 3 and it was a great success,” states Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP. “Students that may already have been thinking about becoming a first responder get a chance to speak with active fire fighters, police officers and paramedics and to experience a bit of each organization’s workload – it’s truly a unique opportunity.”

Students rotated through three stations throughout the day, learning about the exciting aspects of the First Responder careers. Some examples of what the students experienced were: donning fire rescue gear and using high-pressure hoses; learning how to stop a traumatic bleed and administer an airway; and arrest and handcuff procedures.

“BCEHS is proud to continue supporting Adventures with First Responders Day. Introducing youth to the rewarding and dynamic career of a Paramedic—and the many opportunities it offers—is key to ensuring that the residents of British Columbia continue to receive world-class pre-hospital care,” says Ryan Sharp, Paramedic Practice Educator.
