Fatal collision on Highway 97 at Woodpecker Landing

On March 16, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Prince George RCMP frontline officers were dispatched to a serious collision on Highway 97 at Woodpecker Landing, south of Prince George. Initial reports indicated that a semi‑truck had jackknifed and collided with a pickup truck, resulting in serious injuries.

The passenger of the pickup truck, a 69‑year‑old woman from Quesnel, was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck, a 77‑year‑old man from Quesnel, was transported to hospital with injuries. The semi‑truck driver, a 44‑year‑old man from Abbotsford, was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing, and speed and weather are believed to have been contributing factors in the collision. The Prince George Investigative Services Team is leading the investigation.

“We continue to investigate and are asking any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam video from the area, to come forward. The public’s assistance will be crucial in this investigation,” says Cpl. Brett Urano, RCMP spokesperson. “With changing road conditions, drivers are urged to slow down and adjust their driving to the conditions to help prevent further collisions.”
