Police responded to a report of a man brandishing a handgun on Reid Street in Quesnel.
On April 16, 2026, at approximately 4:15 p.m., the Quesnel RCMP responded to a report of a male with a handgun. The male was reported to be walking along Reid Street brandishing the gun. Multiple front-line RCMP Members attended and located the male who was arrested on scene. A search of the male revealed a butane lighter with the appearance of a black handgun.
"At first glance these gun shaped lighters have the appearance of handguns", says Sgt. Clay Kronebusch. "Police would like to remind the public of the safety risks associated to gun shaped lighters."
