Ridge Meadows RCMP has added its first electric vehicle (EV) to its fleet, as part of an ongoing RCMP pilot project designed to evaluate the feasibility of zero-emission vehicles for policing across Canada.
The 2024 marked Ford F-150 Lightning arrived earlier this month at the Ridge Meadows detachment fully equipped and outfitted for use in frontline policing.
Ridge Meadows RCMP Frontline officers have already begun driving the new police EV to see how it responds in different operational policing situations. Residents should expect to see the new vehicle out patrolling the streets of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.
“We are very excited to have our first electric vehicle and test out its suitability for our frontline operations and service delivery,” says Inspector Martin Guay, Ridge Meadows RCMP Operations Officer. “The initial response has been well received and our officers appreciate that the vehicle is outfitted to the same specifications as other vehicles in our fleet.”
