Celina Dominelli (Crime Prevention Supervisor) speaks over video footage: “Volunteering with the Crime Prevention Unit is a great opportunity to make your community a better place. It’s fun, it’s unique, it’s engaging, and it’s something that not everyone gets to do.”
“Right now, we currently have an active 78 members. We’ve got some senior members who take on the younger members. We’ve got younger members who impart new ideas and new pieces of knowledge to the older members, so it’s a great little community that we have.

Those interested in learning more about the Crime Prevention volunteer program are invited to attend an information session on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 5:00pm to 6:00 pm at the Ridge Meadows RCMP detachment. Attendees will meet crime prevention staff, speak with police officers, and learn about the application process and volunteer opportunities.
“Our Crime Prevention volunteers are a vital part of how we work with the community to enhance public safety,” says Superintendent Adam Gander, Officer in Charge of Ridge Meadows RCMP. “They provide real-time information to our officers and staff that help guide our operations and strengthen our overall crime prevention efforts.”
Crime Prevention volunteers support a wide range of community safety initiatives. Duties may include recording vehicle speeds and incidents of distracted driving, patrolling neighbourhood hot spots by bike and reporting suspicious activity, running licence plates for possible stolen vehicles, supporting community events, hosting information booths, and even donning the popular Safety Bear mascot costume.
Residents interested in becoming a Crime Prevention volunteer are encouraged to RSVP for the information session by contacting the Ridge Meadows RCMP Crime Prevention Unit at crimepreventionunit@mapleridge.ca or 604-467-7644.
“It’s fun, it’s unique, and it’s not something that everyone gets to do,” says Celina Dominelli, Ridge Meadows RCMP Crime Prevention Unit Supervisor. “Whether you’re interested in policing as a career or want to be a champion for public safety, there’s truly something for everyone. We have a great mix of people with different backgrounds and experiences. We’d love to see new faces join our team.”
