3rd St NW: At 2:45pm a complainant reported unsheltered people having a fire in the back alley of 3rd St NW. Police attended and found two known unsheltered people, and a fire that had recently been extinguished. Police learned from the couple that a local citizen was kind enough to “whip out his dick and piss on it,” putting the fire out as their story went. The couple cleaned up the area and departed.
Auto Rd: At 11pm Salmon Arm RCMP attended a report of a single vehicle rollover on Hwy 97B, and Auto Rd. Police located a 1994 grey Toyota Camry on its roof, with an 18-year-old female and male nearby. The 18-year-old man identified himself as the driver and admitted to having “two or three” shots of fireball about three hours prior. The man blew a “fail” and then told police he knew he should not have been driving and was going to fail the test. The man blew a fail again on his right to a second test. The man was prohibited from driving for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The matter was referred to RoadSafetyBC.

4th Ave SW: At 6:20pm a woman reported a man laying in the middle of the Trans Canada Hwy at 4th Ave SW. The woman added the man was walking toward her vehicle but kept falling down. Police attended and located a 24-year-old man who claimed he had been struck by a vehicle. BC Ambulance attended but the man refused their assistance and just kept repeating that he did not want to “go to the drunk tank.” The man was clearly intoxicated with slurred speech and unable to stand up on his own. He was arrested for being intoxicated in public, spent the night in the “drunk tank,” and was issued a violation ticket for being intoxicated in a public place.
Pierre’s Point Rd: At 10:30pm Salmon Arm RCMP stopped a grey Honda Civic for speeding more than 30km/h over the speed limit. The 24-year-old male driver stated he had just left the casino and had alcohol “over 30 minutes ago.” Police conducted a breath demand, where the driver blew a double “fail.” The man was prohibited from driving for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The matter was referred to RoadSafetyBC.

4th Ave SE: At 12:41pm a Salmon Arm RCMP member observed a well-known female driving a grey Jeep Cherokee west on 4th Ave SE. The officer had dealt with the woman numerous times and was familiar that she did not hold a valid driver’s license. The officer followed the vehicle and noticed it sped up and turned off 7th St SE onto 3rd Ave SE. When the officer caught up to the Jeep it was parked, and he observed the known female running away, and when he called out her name she glanced back but continued running. The officer attended the known residence of the woman and obtained surveillance footage of the woman getting into the Jeep and driving away. The Jeep was impounded for 7 days, and police have forwarded the file to BC Prosecution for charge assessment for one count drive while prohibited under the motor vehicle act.

Ross St: At 9:20am a complainant reported minor damage to an exterior door. Police attended and observed a mailbox slot on an exterior door had been pried off, and there were pry marks around the edge of the door frame. No entry was made. Police were able to obtain surveillance footage from a neighbouring business that showed an unknown male and female at 4am that morning at the doorway. Police were unable to identify the pair due to poor video quality and distance from the camera. “Salmon Arm RCMP recommend all local businesses review their exterior doorway security. Installing a door latch protector is a simple and affordable step to deter a break-in. Please call your local police detachment if you wish to have an officer review how to improve security around your business with you,” stated media relations officer Cst. Andrew Hodges of the Salmon Arm RCMP.
