January 7

Hudson Ave: At 12am Salmon Arm RCMP were on pro-active patrol and noticed a rear door ajar to a commercial building. Police entered the building and located a known 43-year-old male and 31-year-old female inside. There was damage to the door, and the interior had garbage strewn all over. The pair was arrested for break and enter and transported to cells. The pair were later released with a future court date and conditions to speak to the allegation. A property representative was notified of the incident.

January 8

Foothills Rd: At 8:35am a complainant reported a suspicious male waved him down on Foothills Rd requesting vehicle assistance on a white GMC pickup. The complainant ended up giving the suspicious male a ride to a local department store, then called police as the pickup’s dash was ripped apart. Police located the truck which had a mismatched plate, altered VIN, and had been spray painted. The suspicious male was located by police and arrested for possession of property obtained by crime. The man was released with a future court date. Police were later able to locate the actual VIN, and confirmed the pickup had been reported stolen in 2025.

January 13

3rd St SW: At 9am staff reported an unknown male cutting the security camera wiring on an outbuilding at the Fair Grounds. The incident was captured at 2:15am and footage was provided to police. Police were able to identify the 31-year-old man and arrested him later that day for mischief. The man was released on conditions and a future court date to speak to the allegations.

January 15

Bolton Rd: At 8:25am a man reported his white 2006 Ford F-350 was stolen from his residence sometime in the previous 24 hours. All of the keys were accounted for, and no one had permission to use the vehicle. There was no video or witnesses.

Salmon Arm RCMP have seen an increase in stolen trucks and believe someone is targeting early 2000’s model pickup trucks in the Shuswap area. Some tips to prevent your vehicle from being stolen include using a steering wheel lock, tire lock, kill switch, immobilizer, and alarm system. Using a GPS tracking device, or Bluetooth tracker (AirTag, Chipolo, SmartTag, Tile) placed in a discreet location inside the vehicle can potentially assist police after the fact if your older model vehicle has been stolen.

January 18

Trans Canada Hwy: At 7am a woman reported someone had thrown a large rock and smashed a glass door of a local business. The complainant was able to provide police video surveillance which showed a known unsheltered 61-year-old man thrown an object at the building the previous night. The man was already in police custody for another related incident but was re-arrested for this incident. The man was later released on conditions and with a future court date.
