March 5

Shaw Rd: At 10am Salmon Arm RCMP received a report from a woman than she’d been kicked in the chest by a man she knew. Police attended but the man had departed in a blue Dodge Ram. Police re-attended the residence that evening, located the man and arrested him for assault and driving while prohibited. The man was held in custody for a bail hearing. Police obtained charge approval for one count assault, and one count drive while prohibited against Michael Wuest. Michael Wuest was later released by a judge on numerous conditions, including that he does not live in Salmon Arm.

March 10

11th Ave NE: At 10:20pm a Salmon Arm RCMP member observed three females exit a local pub and were stumbling while they walked. The officer then observed the females enter a black Mitsubishi Eclipse and drive down 11th Ave NE. A traffic stop was conducted, and police learned the 26-year-old female driver had an invalid driver’s license. The officer noted a strong odour of alcohol coming from the vehicle, and the driver had slurred speech. A breath demand was given and the female initially refused to provide a sample of her breath. After learning the penalty for refusal was the same as a fail, the driver elected to provide a sample of her breath. The woman blew a “fail” and declined her right to a second test. The woman’s vehicle was impounded for 30 days, and she was prohibited from driving for a minimum of 90 days. The matter was referred to RoadSafetyBC.

March 11

9th Ave NE: At 7pm a 45-year-old man drove his white Dodge Ram 3500 over a traffic cone put in place by a tow truck driver at a local fast-food restaurant. When the tow truck driver tried to alert the 45-year-old driver to the cone he’d run over, the man exited his truck and began yelling at the tow driver. The driver the tow was assisting then came over, and the 45-year-old slapped him across the mouth. The 45-year-old then departed. Police located the 45-year-old in his truck on Auto Rd where he refused to provide police his name. The man was arrested for obstruction and assault, and was given a breath demand due to displaying symptoms of intoxication. The man refused to provide a sample of his breath, which carried the same penalty as a fail, which is a 30-day vehicle impound and a 90-day driving prohibition. The man was also held in cells overnight to sober up and eventually released with a future court date.

March 17

Salmon Arm: A woman reported she was selling an item on Facebook Marketplace and received an etransfer for payment. The woman clicked the link and immediately knew something was wrong. The next day the woman’s bank account had three unauthorized transactions totalling just under $500. She contacted her bank and had her account locked to prevent further losses.
Salmon Arm RCMP are again reminding residents that etransfers should only be used with people you know and trust. Do not send etransfers to unknown people unless it is money you are willing to potentially lose. Cash is strongly recommended for online marketplace purchases.
