On June 13, 2026, at 7:08am Salmon Arm RCMP received a report of a head-on collision between a semi with trailer, and a sedan with three people trapped, on Highway 1 east of Kangaroo Rd near Salmon Arm, BC.
On scene was a rental Toyota Corolla in the east bound ditch, and a westbound semi with trailer also in the east bound ditch. The Corolla had four occupants, with one able to exit on their own. The other three were trapped and were extricated using the jaws of life. All four Corolla occupants were transported to hospital and believed to be in stable but critical condition.
Initial investigative steps suggest the Corolla was east bound and crossed the centre line attempting to pass an east bound semi in front of it. The Corolla was unable to complete the pass before being struck head-on by a westbound semi with trailer. The Corolla apparently spun off the road into the east bound ditch, with the engine also ejecting. The semi with trailer appeared to lose control and went off road left into the east bound side ditch. The semi driver was uninjured and cooperating with police. A collision analyst is on scene.
Highway 1 between Salmon Arm and Sicamous is expected to remain closed until at least 5pm on June 13, 2026. Flaggers are at the east end of Salmon Arm re-directing traffic. Please check drivebc.ca for updated road status.
Salmon Arm RCMP would like to thank BC Ambulance, Salmon Arm Rescue Unit, Eagle Valley Rescue Society, and Salmon Arm Fire Department for their excellent efforts in extricating the three occupants.
Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage that has not spoken with Salmon Arm RCMP is asked to report to 250-832-6044 and reference file 2026-3553.
