Sicamous RCMP are investigating after what appears to be a targeted shooting in Sicamous.
On Sunday April 6 at 4:00PM Sicamous RCMP responded to a report of shots fired near a condo building in the 300 block of Mara Lane in Sicamous. Police arrived on scene and spoke with witnesses who described suspects leaving in a white SUV prior to police arriving. Police determined the intended target of the shooting was a Sicamous man who is known to police. The man had fled from the scene in another vehicle. Police located the man unharmed; however, his truck, which was found to have multiple bullet holes, was seized as part of the investigation.
A description of the suspect vehicle was broadcast to neighboring RCMP detachments. Salmon Arm RCMP attempted a traffic stop with a westbound white SUV approaching Canoe from the east which failed to stop for police. The vehicle was found abandoned near the Trans Canada Highway in Canoe. RCMP dog services and the Emergency Response Team members began to search the area for the two suspects.
RCMP arrested both suspects in a residential area of Canoe after successful dog tracks. Both suspects, who remain in custody, are known to RCMP in the Province of Alberta.
"A shooting in a residential area during mid day is alarming; however, this was an isolated targeted incident with both suspects in police custody," said Sgt. Murray MacNeil, Detachment Commander for the Sicamous RCMP.
Police continue to investigate the matter.
