On August 1, 2025 at 9:04 p.m., the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP received a report of a cougar roaming in the area of 400 block of Lands End Road, North Saanich.
Since the start of 2025, Sidney/North Saanich RCMP has received 35 calls for service involving cougars. In some of these instances, it was reported that the cougar had attacked farm animals and as a result, the BC Conservation Officer Service was notified of the cougar’s presence.
The Sidney/North Saanich RCMP would like to advise the public to not approach a cougar in the wild and to be very cautious when outside with small children and pets. If spotted, please leave it alone and give it space. There is no need to report its whereabouts unless it’s posing an active threat to someone.
