File # 2025-1123

The Smithers RCMP is providing an update following the April 12, 2025, break and enter at McBike & Sport.

As reported in our May 3, 2025 media release, officers responded in the early morning hours to a glass break and motion alarm at the downtown business. Two men were arrested nearby after attempting to flee on foot, and several stolen items were recovered at the time.

Following a thorough investigation, the BC Prosecution Service has approved charges against both individuals.

Floyd Hyzims, of Smithers, is charged with:

  • Break and enter with intent to commit an offence – Section 348(1)(a), Criminal Code
  • Disguise with intent to commit an offence – Section 351(2), Criminal Code
  • Mischief – Section 430, Criminal Code
  • Theft over $5,000 – Section 334(a), Criminal Code

Jaden Larson, also of Smithers, faces the same charges.

“This file demonstrates the importance of timely police response paired with thorough follow-up by investigators,” said Sergeant Ryan Law, Acting Smithers RCMP Detachment Commander.

The accused are expected to appear in court in the coming weeks.

“Police play a critical role in gathering the evidence needed to support charges, but accountability is ultimately determined through the court process,” said Constable Jocelyn Foidart, Media Relations Officer for Smithers RCMP.

We thank the public for their ongoing interest in this case.
