Smithers File 2025-3581

Smithers RCMP have new details following the September 19 arrests at Canadian Tire that drew attention from staff and shoppers.

Alyssa Larson of Smithers has been charged with assaulting a peace officer and wilfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer. She was released from custody with her first court date set for December 16, 2025.

Bobby Quock of Smithers, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant at the time of his arrest, has been charged with assaulting a peace officer, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and disarming a peace officer. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on October 9, 2025.

All charges were approved by the Public Prosecution Service of Canada.

“For those watching, it can look alarming when someone resists police, but for our officers these situations are part of their duty,” said Acting Staff Sergeant Ryan Law, Detachment Commander, Smithers RCMP. “At the same time, it’s important for us to remember that they can be unsettling for the community to witness. Our goal is always to resolve them safely and with as little disruption to the public as possible” added A/Sgt. Law.

No members of the public were injured, and police extend their appreciation to the community members and Canadian Tire staff who supported officers in safely making these arrests.
