Smithers RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance in locating the 14-year-old youth reported missing earlier today. She has been located safe.

We are especially grateful to the members of the public and local businesses who called in possible sightings and information. Those calls helped officers follow up quickly and continue searching in the right areas.

We understand missing youth releases can raise questions, especially when the information shared publicly is limited. In many cases, police are working with more information than we can release. Smithers RCMP had reason to be concerned for the youth’s well-being and needed to locate her as soon as possible.

When we issue a public request for assistance, it is because we believe the public may be able to help locate someone safely. Today we saw how much that support mattered.

Thank you to everyone who checked their property, called in sightings, and helped locate this young person quickly.
