Youth deceased following hiking accident

Sea to Sky RCMP (Squamish Detachment) and North Shore and Lions Bay Search and Rescue responded to the report of two lost hikers on Sunday afternoon.

On May 4, 2025, at 3:34 p.m. Sea to Sky RCMP-Squamish were notified of two hikers who had been separated and were lost in the Lions Bay area. It was reported that one of the hikers had fallen down a gully and the other had left the trail to try to locate their friend.

North Shore Search and Rescue successfully located and extracted one of the hikers.

The second hiker who had fallen was later located unresponsive and transported to hospital. Despite life saving efforts the 17-year-old youth did not survive.

Sea to Sky RCMP- Squamish is working with BC Coroners Service to advance the investigation.
