The Sunshine Coast RCMP has successfully applied for provincial funding available through the Government of BC Community Safety and Targeted Enforcement Program (C-STEP), in support of proactive police initiatives to combat street disorder and property crime in the downtown Sechelt area.
This funding will assist police in addressing ongoing issues of retail theft, property damage and nuisance behavior affecting residents and businesses in Sechelt using enhanced proactive patrols on an overtime basis. "The overall aim of this project is to identify, arrest and recommend charges for repeat property offenders, and to enhance the feeling of safety in the community by increasing our police presence" said Staff Sergeant Jennifer Prunty.
These patrols will include outreach by police with individual businesses, as well as visible foot, bike patrols and targeted enforcement projects.
