BC RCMP notifies IIO BC of an incident in Surrey

The BC RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Surrey where a man has died.

On July 7, 2025, at approximately 8:31 p.m., police received a call of an assault in progress at a residence in the 19400 block of 66A Avenue in Surrey, B.C.

Police officers from the Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) attended and entered the home where they encountered a man with a weapon.

An interaction occurred and shots were fired by police. BC Emergency Health Services (EHS) personnel were staged nearby and were immediately called in to provide medical care; however, the individual has died.

Immediately following the interaction, while police were attending to the man, other officers located a woman deceased inside the residence.

The IIO BC was notified and are attending the scene to investigate police actions in this incident. The area has been cordoned off in order to support the investigation.

As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has conduct of the concurrent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
