The Terrace RCMP are approximately one month into their Community Safety and Targeted Enforcement Program (C-STEP). See original C-STEP release here.

Officers in Terrace have stepped up their game, taking on extra shifts in addition to their regularly scheduled duties, thanks to C-STEP funding.

The goal of officers on these additional shifts is proactive/preventative measures, to decrease criminality. In the first month of this initiative, RCMP made an additional 64 arrests. Those arrested were a combination of repeat violent and non-violent offenders under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, therefore preventing offences that may have otherwise been committed.

Of those arrested, 11 charges have been laid, while some arrests are still under investigation with charges not yet approved.

A significant number of weapons were seized from those arrested individuals, again preventing violent offences from being committed. Some of those weapons seized are as follows:

  • Long swords
  • Katanas
  • Throwing knives/axes
  • Hatchets
  • Ammunition
  • Bear spray
  • Brass knuckles

Terrace RCMP have also seized several other items that will help contribute to the prevention of offences:

  • Fentanyl
  • Cocaine
  • Methamphetamine
  • Illicit pharmaceuticals
  • Contraband tobacco
  • Break in instruments
  • Liquor

During this first month, one repeat offender has been referred and connected to services including Northern Health, the Intensive Case Management Team and the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction to support the needs of that person.

Terrace RCMP members will be continuing these additional C-Step patrols until the end of the program in mid-October.
