The Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 248 calls between July 25 and July 31, 2025. Below are a few highlights of those calls.

Excessive speed and more

On the afternoon of July 26, a member of the BC Highway Patrol was patrolling Highway 16 near Gagnon Road in a posted 90 km per hour zone. The officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed which was captured on radar at 134 km per hour. A traffic stop was conducted with the vehicle and it was found to have insurance which had expired the previous month. The driver of the vehicle was identified by his class 7 license and found to have no N displayed. The vehicle was impounded due to the excessive speed and a violation ticket was issued for no insurance and failing to display N. The owner of the vehicle was a passenger and the two chose to depart with the tow truck driver. (2025-5991)

Tinted windows lead to impaired investigation

On the evening of July 26, a member of the BC Highway Patrol was conducting patrols on Highway 16 in Thornhill. The officer observed a GMC pickup truck driving with tinted front windows and a lack of mud guards. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was unable to provide insurance, stating that he had moved to Terrace from out of province and his vehicle could not pass an inspection. The officer issued the driver a violation ticket for having no insurance, no mud flaps, and tinted windows. Following this, the officer noted evidence of impairment and conducted an impaired investigation. A breath sample was obtained roadside which resulted in a fail. The driver was issued a driving prohibition and seized his license. The driver was also issued an immediate roadside driving prohibition for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded. The driver and his passenger departed on foot stating they had called themselves a taxi. (2025-6018)

Idling vehicle leads to arrests

Terrace RCMP received a report of a vehicle that had been idling all day on July 27 in the Canadian Tire parking lot. Police attended and located the vehicle with a man and woman sitting in the back seat along with drug paraphernalia. The pair was arrested for possession of a substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The woman was found to be on conditions not to possess pry bars, bolt cutters, hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, slim jims (and other break in tools). Upon searching the vehicle, police found crystal methamphetamine, as well as a multi tool with pliers and screwdrivers. The same vehicle had also been involved in an incident of flight from police a few days prior. The woman was additionally arrested for possession of CDSA and breaching her probation and she was transported to Terrace cells to be held for a bail hearing. The man was arrested for possession of CDSA however he was released on scene. On July 28, charges were approved for Breach Probation and the woman was released on a Release Order with several conditions. (2025-6043)

Woman rescued from Skeena River

On Monday, July 28, Terrace RCMP received a report of a woman in distress in the Skeena River. The caller reported that they could hear screaming coming from someone in the river who was hanging onto a branch. RCMP attended numerous vantage points of the river to be able to find the woman’s location. Additional resources were called out including Terrace Search and Rescue, Terrace and Thornhill Fire, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, and BC EHS. The woman was eventually extracted safely from the water by Terrace Search and Rescue and was taken to hospital for assessment. Additional thanks to several civilians who assisted by offering canoes, life jackets, and personal watercraft. (2025-6067)

Woman arrested for possession of drugs near local fast food chain

On the afternoon of July 29, RCMP were conducting patrols in the downtown core and came across a woman using drugs while sitting in the grass outside a local fast food chain. The woman was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. A search of the woman following the arrest located a pack of unstamped tobacco which was seized, in addition to the drugs for disposal. (2025-6090)
