The C-STEP initiative that was launched in June 2025, has completed its fourth month and has been deemed successful on every front.
This program (Community Safety and Targeted Enforcement Program) provided funding through the Government of BC for the specific purpose of proactive patrols and targeting hot spot crime areas in Terrace. The objective being to provide consistent, enhanced, proactive and highly visible police presence to suppress and prevent violent criminal activity.
In the last month of C-STEP patrols, Terrace RCMP made an additional 47 arrests. Those arrested were a combination of repeat violent and non-violent offenders, therefore preventing offences that may have otherwise been committed.
Of those arrested, 24 new charges were laid, while some arrests are still under investigation with charges not yet approved.
Throughout the duration of the C-STEP program (June through October) Terrace RCMP made a total of 231 additional arrests, with 43 individuals being charged, 48 charges laid, and 47 violation tickets issued.
Also throughout the entirety of the C-STEP program, the following types of weapons were seized from arrested individuals:
- Swords
- Katanas
- Throwing knives
- Hatchets
- Ammunition
- Bear spray
- Brass knuckles
- Daggers
- Switchblades
- Homemade shield
- Homemade bladed weapons
Additional items seized which contribute to the prevention of offences:
- Fentanyl
- Cocaine
- Methamphetamine
- Illicit pharmaceuticals
- Contraband tobacco

Overall, fifteen repeat offenders were referred and connected to local social services including Northern Health, the Intensive Case Management Team and the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction to support the needs of these people. In addition, numerous unhoused individuals were referred to K’san Society and Kermode Friendship Society to facilitate admission into treatment programs.
By all accounts, the Terrace RCMP are pleased to have been able to partner with the C-STEP program this year which in turn benefitted the community of Terrace.
