Motorcycle and dump truck collide on Highway 22 near Genelle

On Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 11:35 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP, BC Highway Patrol Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services (CARS), Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue, and BC Emergency Health Services (BC EHS) responded to a collision between a motorcycle and a dump truck on Highway 22 near the intersection of Courtesy Road, in Genelle, BC.

A 65-year-old Castlegar man driving the dump truck travelling northbound allegedly lost control of his vehicle which caused him to cross over the centreline of the highway. After crossing the centreline, the dump truck struck a 64-year-old Quesnel man riding his motorcycle in the southbound lane.

The 64-year-old Quesnel motorcyclist sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported by BC EHS to hospital for medical treatment.

The 65-year-old Castlegar man driving the dump truck may have suffered a medical episode prior to the incident. He was also transported by BC EHS to hospital for medical treatment.

Highway traffic was diverted through Genelle for several hours until the scene investigation was completed. The investigation continues.

"The incident was believed to be very serious initially due to the circumstances. Fortunately, the motorcyclist survived and is expected to fully recover despite this scary close call. Please remember to look out in particular for our motorcycling friends and drive defensively while travelling on our busy roads," says Sgt. Wicentowich.

Vehicle rollover leads to Trail RCMP officer conducting impaired investigation

On Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 10:32 p.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report that a 32-year-old Trail man and his vehicle had crashed and rolled over into the ditch in the 4800 block of Old Cascade Highway in Rossland, BC.

The officer, Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue, and BC EHS attended the scene. The officer located the man who was apparently uninjured. The officer conducted an investigation and discovered that the man was allegedly prohibited from driving a motor vehicle under Section 95 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act.

The officer also observed that the man’s ability to operate a motor vehicle may have been impaired by alcohol. A demand was read to the man who provide a sample of his breath which resulted in a fail.

The 32-year-old Trail man was issued a 90-Day Immediate Driving Prohibition under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act. His vehicle was impounded for up to 30 days.

The investigation into the incident continues.

"Please stay sober while driving on our busy roads and highways. This incident did not result in tragedy but easily could have. Trail RCMP officers will be out on the roads all summer looking for impaired drivers in order to keep our roads safer," says Sgt. Wicentowich.

Attempted break, enter, theft leads to arrest of Trail man

On Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 8:34 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report about a theft and attempted break, enter, and theft into a residence in the 1500 block of Columbia Avenue, in Trail, BC.

A surveillance camera captured a suspect allegedly cutting through a screen door in attempt to break into the residence. Fortunately, the door behind the screen was locked and prevented entrance. The man was believed to have also stolen strawberries from the garden and a pair of men’s shoes.

The video footage was provided to the officer by the owner. A 40-year-old Trail man was identified by police from the footage.

The officer subsequently located and arrested the man.

The 40-year-old Trail man is in police custody awaiting his bail hearing before a Provincial Court judge.

The investigation continues.

Trail man arrested, attempts to flee from Trail RCMP officer

On Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 7:35 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was patrolling in a marked police vehicle when she spotted a 40-year-old Trail man with an outstanding arrest warrant standing outside a business in the 700 block of Victoria Street, in Trail, BC.

The officer approached the man and placed him under arrest. The man allegedly attempted to flee on foot; however, the officer was able to pursue and capture him, effectively taking the man down to the ground and maintaining controlled until a second officer arrived. Both officers took the man into custody and lodged him into the Trail Detachment cell block.

The 40-year-old Trail man remains in police custody awaiting his bail hearing before a Provincial Court judge.

The man may face additional charges pending charge approval by BC Prosecution Service.

Officers attend call, save Castlegar man’s life

File # 2025-3240

On Monday, August 4, 2025, at 4:23 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report about a man who appeared to be in physical distress from an alleged drug overdose in the 1100 block of Green Avenue, in Trail, BC.

The officers attended the scene and located a 46-year-old Castlegar man laying on the ground. The officers noted that man was breathing but unresponsive. One officer administered a dose of Naloxone to the man while the other officer contacted BC EHS. The Naloxone delivery was successful and officers remained with the man while he recovered.

BC EHS attended; however, the 46-year-old man opted to leave the scene on foot in the company of a friend.

"I would like to commend our officers for their quick response and action which resulted in this man recovering quickly from a scenario that can turn deadly. Drugs purchased from illicit sources can be lethal and any user is in danger at anytime, no matter their experience with the substance," says Sgt. Wicentowich.
