The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is continuing to investigate a series of property‑damage incidents involving broken glass and other vandalism to businesses in the Vernon area.
These incidents have occurred over recent weeks and remain under active investigation. While damage has been reported at multiple locations, no charges have been laid at this time. “As part of the ongoing investigation, one individual believed to be linked to the recent string of incidents has been arrested and is currently in police custody awaiting a court appearance”, states Inspector Neil Kennedy, Operations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. “The arrest follows steady investigative work by officers across a number of related files.”
Police recognize the significant impact these incidents have on local businesses. Owners and employees invest considerable time, effort, and resources into serving the community, and damage to property creates unexpected costs and disruption.
“We know how frustrating this has been for local business owners,” adds Inspector Kennedy. “They work hard to operate and support our community, and they shouldn’t have to deal with the added stress of repeated vandalism. We’re going to keep supporting them and continue to work hard at reducing this type of crime and it’s impact on our community.”
Police are continuing to investigate and anyone with information related to these incidents is asked to contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at (250) 545-7171.
