On the late evening of August 26, 2025, at approximately 10:24p.m., West Kelowna RCMP responded to reports of a motorhome that had gone off-road northbound on Highway 97 near Antlers Beach.

The motorhome, occupied only by the driver, crossed the yellow line and left the road where it collided with a tree. The driver was able to safely exit the vehicle before it became fully engulfed in flames. The fire quickly spread to the surrounding hillside.

Fire crews from Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, and the BC Wildfire Service attended the scene and worked to contain the blaze. Their swift actions prevented the fire from spreading further toward nearby homes and infrastructure.

Highway 97 traffic was temporarily affected as crews worked to manage the scene and ensure public safety. The roadway has since been reopened.

The driver was assessed by emergency personnel and did not report serious injuries.

West Kelowna RCMP continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the motorhome leaving the roadway.

Thanks to the quick response of the fire departments and the BC Wildfire Service, a potentially much larger incident was prevented, said Cpl. Devon Gerrits, Media Relations Officer for the West Kelowna RCMP. We are grateful that the driver was able to escape unharmed and that no further injuries were reported.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dash camera footage is asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880 and reference file number 2025-51290.
